NY Post article on the “drifter”

Selim Algar, the author of the NY Post who first reported on the “drifter” on April 9, 2011. His email address is selim.algar@nypost.com.

[Edited to cross out info I’ve since learned to be untrue.]
I should have been suspicious when Precious Dust posted Mr. Algar’s email address on WS as selim.algar@AOL.com. When I emailed (who I believed to be) the NY Post author of the “drifter” story to ask if he had confirmed with that person that he was, in fact, the author of Confessions of the Oak Beach Drifter, and PRECIOUS DUST private messaged me on WS, not Selim, saying he didn’t think I would send an email so quickly.

Precious Dust claimed to know the NY Post reporter, and the true identity of the “drifter“, Precious Dust’s POI (person of interest). How does Precious Dust know the drifter’s identity, the NY Post writer, and the only confirmation the REAL reporter supposedly received is from this alias on WS?

I correctly identified his address as selim.algar@nypost.com:

That’s the only time I ever posted his address, and it was to help you ask him a question. But, as George Bernard Shaw (someone not related to CPH, by the way) once said, “no good deed goes unpunished”.

Let’s see…more corrections… I don’t “know” the NY Post reporter, though I was in contact with him briefly at one point. I don’t know the identity of the OaK Beach drifter, nor have I ever said that I do. I’m quite sure, though, that my POI was not the drifter.

I’m not sure if you get so many things wrong accidentally or on purpose, though I don’t really care. One thing I know for sure, though, is that after watching you post 100 times a day for a while as WX, I finally broke down and wrote the mods about some of your excesses – and, lo and behold, you were gone two days later. I’d like to think I helped, though I’m sure the whole place was complaining.

Well, I apologize. You did give the correct email address. Obviously my recollection of the email was wrong.

MM7, It’s not a problem, that can happen to anyone. And I apologize for being snotty about your presence on WS. But, truly, you can exclude me from the CPH conspiracies – if such a thing exists, I’m not part of it. I developed my POI from observations I made about the history of someone I knew in high school, and that’s why I joined WS in July ’12. I sent all the info about my POI to several WS’ers recently, and it included my real name and address and phone number. I’m sure I’ve been way TOO open with my personal info. Cheers.

Thanks for the apology. Accepted. Is it TY? I’ve done some sleuthing of him, too. Obviously I, too, have been too open with my email/name.

Hi MM, thanks for having me! Funny, when I read that, I was going to ask the exact same thing.
